In order to better serve members of the local community struggling with the abuse of alcohol, medications, and illicit substances, MidHudson Regional Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, has relocated its Turning Point Outpatient Chemical Dependency Treatment Program to 201 South Avenue in Poughkeepsie. This new location in a commercial building amongst other professional offices will allow patients to focus on their recovery in a temptation-free environment.
"This relocation is quite exciting for both patients and our dedicated team committed to helping them reclaim their lives," said Allen Nace, Senior Director of Addictions Treatment Services at MidHudson Regional Hospital. "Our end goal at Turning Point is to improve the wellness of chemically-dependent individuals through complete recovery from addiction. Our new location on South Avenue will help significantly in achieving this outcome."
According to the New York State Department of Health, 1.9 million people across the state struggle with substance abuse. Established in 1985, Turning Point provides both inpatient medically-managed detoxification as well as inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation. Individuals in the intensive outpatient programs receive one-on-one counseling, group therapy, and educational activities that include films, reading, lectures, and homework assignments. Patient's family members are encouraged to attend information sessions, participate in counseling, and to follow guidelines that keep the home environment drug free and safe for the recovering addict.
The Turning Point's dual diagnosis intensive outpatient program focuses not just on the addiction and plan for sobriety, but also on identifying and processing the mental health issues that so often accompany addictions. The program centers on the devastating impact of addiction on the mind, body, and spirit of the individual, as well as the family involved. Turning Point's philosophy is that addiction comes hand-in-hand with behavioral issues, and recognizes it is vital to treat both in order to maintain health. The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) license all services.
