On December 16, 2019, MidHudson Regional Hospital passed rigorous peer review scrutiny and became the first and most advanced Level II trauma center in the mid-Hudson Valley to be verified by the American College of Surgeons. To earn ACS verification, a trauma center must prove its strict adherence to best practice guidelines, demonstrate efficiency of treatment, invest in the continuing education of clinicians and staff, and have an institutional commitment to excellence in trauma care.
A trauma center receiving verification from the ACS is key, as New York state now only utilizes the ACS verification program as its standard to designate trauma centers. The ACS verification program applies a comprehensive review process that all centers interested in trauma verification must undergo for official status. MidHudson Regional Hospital Trauma Center was the first in the Hudson Valley area to achieve this high bar to receive verified Level II status.
The trauma team at MidHudson Regional Hospital proactively works to prevent trauma via community outreach and education.
MidHudson Regional Hospital is currently participating in a regional geriatric fall study and provides education on decreasing the risk of falls, which is the leading case of trauma in the older population. Additionally, MidHudson Regional Hospital provides distracting driver education to local high school students and their families and regularly offers bicycle helmet fittings for children and teenagers.
