Neurology Services at MidHudson Regional Hospital

Cerebrovascular & Stroke

Stroke is a leading cause of serious long-term disability in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Our team of stroke specialists encourages the community to learn more about stroke symptoms and to call 911 immediately if someone shows signs of a possible stroke. Emergency medical services can be directed to take a stroke patient to the closest awarded WMCHealth hospital for expert care, if transport is considered to be safe for the individual.

Acute stroke involves sudden neurological deficit ranging from numbness to weakness to speech impairment. In recent years, high-tech minimally invasive neurovascular surgery has emerged as a treatment for acute stroke. WMCHealth surgeons at Westchester Medical Center’s Brain and Spine Institute can deliver a catheter-based system through the arteries of the brain to remove a blood clot and reduce or eliminate symptoms. Westchester Medical Center provides 24/7 acute stroke care for patients seen in our own emergency department or transferred from other hospitals throughout the Hudson Valley. Acute stroke is considered an emergency. Call 911 at the first sign of symptoms.

MidHudson Regional Hospital has received a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center (TSC) Certification. This certification is offered in collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. As a TSC facility, we have met rigorous standards for performing endovascular thrombectomy and providing post-procedural care.
